Tourism is an essential part of development in the contemporary world. This thriving industry, particularly in regions with substantial comparative advantages, requires more attention and should be a primary focus of sustainable development efforts. In tourism-prone areas, prior to the implementation of all programs and plans, conducting strategic studies aimed at mitigating negative impacts and enhancing synergies, effectiveness, and sustainability of benefits should be prioritized. In this study, considering the relative advantages of the Choupanan village and its surrounding environment, we initially employed the SWOT method to analyze the key internal and external factors affecting sustainable tourism. Subsequently, strategies for tourism development were formulated. After developing these strategies, the QSPM and AHP methods were utilized for prioritization and identification of the top strategies. Based on the results, the total scores for internal and external factors were 2.889 and 2.799, respectively, leading to the identification of aggressive strategies as suitable options. In both methods, the weight differences among the top strategies were minimal. Regarding to our finding, the approach considering the surrounding environment at various levels can be served as a model for potential tourism development in rural areas adjacent to protected regions.
